Common Troubleshooting Tips for Course Issues

Common Troubleshooting Tips for Course Issues

When taking a course, you may sometimes run into issues that aren't seen in the course videos. The cause for these issues can vary a lot, from simple user mistakes to changes in the technology governing the course. While there is no one-size-fits-all answer to resolve these issues, there are some common threads that pop up routinely. Below, we'll list off some troubleshooting tips to help you resolve frequent issues we see and get back on track with your learning as quickly as possible.

1. Check Your Operating System

Officially, we only support Windows 10/11 and macOS. If you're using another operating system like Linux or Chromebook, this alone may cause some differences. We highly recommend only using our courses on these operating systems if you're comfortable Googling to find solutions for program differences between systems.

2. Check the Program Version

Most of our courses come with a "Course Requirements" lesson at the very beginning. This lesson will not only give you the prerequisites for the course, but also tell you which version of the relevant program(s) you should be using.

We highly recommend using the version(s) listed in this lesson, as using a newer version other than what's recommended can result in unintended consequences. This is especially the case for game engines like Unity, Godot, and Unreal, where there can be significant differences between stable releases in certain areas.

3. Check the Lesson Notes

Often, our course support team will have already identified an error and provided a fix in the Lesson Notes of the course. Make sure to check those to see if there are any fixes already listed.

You may also wish to use and skim the lesson notes to see if the issue is resolved later in the course, which can often happen.

4. Ask the AI Tutor

Our AI Tutor is a real-time chatbot specifically designed to help resolve course issues. The AI Tutor has the full context of each course, so it can often and easily help resolve easier issues with you on the spot. You can check out this article for more information on using the AI Tutor: What if I am having trouble with the course content?

5. Check the Completed Course Files

For all project-based courses, we provide the complete course files for the project. One good way to investigate the issue is to simply download the files and cross-compare with your own. Sometimes it will come down to a missed setting on your end or a simple typo.

However, in some cases, you'll be able to reproduce the issue with the completed course files; in that case, we recommend submitting a course issue report to us so we can investigate.

None of these helps?

If none of the above helps, feel free to submit a course issue report for the course so our course support team can look into the issue further.
