This article will cover how to install the game engine Defold. Before installation, you may wish to review Defold's system requirements. Please note as well that for our courses, we advise downloading version 1.81 for optimal compatibility. While you can use the latest version, this may result in errors.

1. Head to the 1.81 Defold download page available at https://github.com/defold/defold/releases/tag/1.8.1

2. Click the file relevant to your operating system to start the download. Windows users will want the win32.zip file, while MacOS users should select the .dmg file relevant to their system.

3. Once downloaded, you can install Defold. The steps differ here slightly depending on which operating system you're using.

For Windows users, unzip the file and drag the folder to an appropriate location on your hard drive (such as C:\Program Files).

For Mac users, double-click the downloaded file to un-compress it. Then, drag the .app file into your Applications folder.

4. Once installed, you can launch the program and begin making your games.
